SUMMARY: There's a fishing tournament being talked about around Mac Anu and Lumina Cloth. Do you have what it takes to be the Grandmaster Fisher?! ... But before that, there's bait to be found!

There's a buzz in the plaza and quite a few posters put out. It seems that with the dog days of summer upon everyone, it's also time to partake of a typical summer activity... Fishing! On the posters strewn throughout the Root Towns are the keywords ΔDelicious Unlimited Ocean. Once there, they'll be greeted by the sight of several islands all connected to a larger, 'main' island where the GMs are situated. Right in front of the Chaos Gate too, so there's no missing them. Good thing too, because they're handing out the fishing rods you need to complete this quest!

... But no bait?

A quick inquiry will net players the answer; defeat monsters to earn bait in order to catch fish for the salmon bake later! Okay, so maybe it wasn't a salmon bake but grilled fish does smell sound like a nice incentive right? Five of the islands branching off the main one has a small sign in front that indicate which levels they'll find there, starting from level 1 through 10 up to level 41 through 50 for the most daring. There's space all throughout the islands that seem to be designated 'safe spots' where one can start fishing without worrying about getting ambushed.

Go forth and catch that elusive Halibut for dinner!

2) All right! There are all sorts of fishes, but the fishes you'll be catching are of the monster variety. The dropped item will be a normal fish (re; salmon, halibut, tilapia, etc)! There are complimentary summer/beach costumes for all who participate and... quirky(?) fishbone/seafood themed weapons for everyone who catches a fish.

And before anyone asks, yes. Even that tiny little smelt can potentially net you a gigantic Broadsword]

[Roy half-smiles grimly.]

Your swimsuit reminded me of what she insists is acceptable everyday wear.

[...One of those kinds, huh?]

It's just a swimsuit. I don't plan on wearing it again after this event.

Trust me, if I see you wearing that again I'll assume you've been replaced by a doppelganger that's incredibly bad at its job.

[He nods, looking out over the water thoughtfully. No dab hand at fishing himself, he'd nevertheless come prepared as well. Now he draws out the pole he'd obtained and begins to bait the hook.]

On that note, do you take after one of your parents? My sister, of course, was Dad's favorite... even though she takes after our mother more.

[She does much the same, occasionally glancing at Roy to make sure she's doing it right.]

One of my parents...? Maybe. It's hard to say.

[Roy stops mid-baiting, then looks down at the hook in confusion.]

...Wait, where did I learn to do this?

[....Um.]

...You don't know?

No. I was dead while half of party was at sea, then we had a desert adventure, and before that it was mostly overland once we got out of Dorukan's dungeon...

And yet I know exactly what I'm doing.

[Roy stands, hook baited, and with one smooth gesture makes a beautiful cast.]

Well. That's weird.

[She finishes up putting the bait on the hook before casting, although hers is definitely more uncertain than Roy's. Still, it's in the water, so hopefully that means it'll work?]

...And you're sure you don't remember learning it anywhere?

I'd have loved to have had the sort of father who would take me out fishing as a boy. But I can definitely promise I didn't learn it from him.

[Wow, that reeks of family issues. As it goes with these sorts of things, she's sort of curious, but as if she'd bring it up herself.]

So it has to be from somewhere else, right? Have you seen anyone go fishing before?

Of course I've observed it, but that doesn't account for muscle memory or reflexive behavior. It feels familiar.

That's... really strange. How could you have learned it...?

[There's got to be some kind of logical explanation.]

[Roy starts to shrug, but it's interrupted when his rod is nearly yanked out of his hands by a powerful tug. He gets to his feet quickly, bracing himself against the pull.]

Whoa! I know I don't remember catching anything THIS big!

[tank_sniper]

[She starts, nearly dropping her own fishing pole when she realizes that she... probably can't help him all that much even if she ditches her own line.]

Think you've got it-?!

[greatcleavage]

[No sooner does she ask that then the fish breaches the water -- and just as anyone would expect, it's a monster fish, and not just in size. Roy eyes it skeptically for a moment, then sets his shoulders and begins to reel again.]

I don't think either of us would be sorry if you weakened it a bit while I'm reeling!

[tank_sniper]

[Well, that changes things. She'll just go ahead and drop her line - she's got enough bait for plenty of other tries anyway - and, after equipping her bayonet, will open fire on that fishmonster.}

[greatcleavage]

[That makes reeling it in a bit easier -- oh no, wait, that's because the fish monster is furiously charging the beach in a rage. Roy promptly falls on his butt as the line goes slack, scrambling to his feet as it races for them.]

[tank_sniper]

[When the fish starts charging, Shinon starts backing the hell up, firing a few shots in between steps as she gives Roy a wide enough berth to take on the fish monster himself.

Also just because, you know. Taking on a monster at short range is the last thing she wants to do.]

[greatcleavage]

[That's okay. With a look of cold determination on his face, Roy steps up and wallops the monster with the fishing rod he's still holding.]

[Part of her is surprised the system is allowing the fishing rod to be used as a melee weapon.

The other part is watching cautiously. She's sure Roy can handle it from this point on, she just doesn't want to attract the monster's attention by mistake.]

[Weaponized fishing poles are a time-honored MMO tradition! Also Roy didn't particularly bother to stop and consider whether or not he could actually do this; he just did it.]

[The battle, actually, is fairly close. The monster outlevels Roy, but in turn, Roy is fighting smarter, focusing on a defensive push as he slowly backs out of the water to lure the fish out. It's starting to feel that more and more as it drags itself after him.]
