SUMMARY: There's a fishing tournament being talked about around Mac Anu and Lumina Cloth. Do you have what it takes to be the Grandmaster Fisher?! ... But before that, there's bait to be found!

There's a buzz in the plaza and quite a few posters put out. It seems that with the dog days of summer upon everyone, it's also time to partake of a typical summer activity... Fishing! On the posters strewn throughout the Root Towns are the keywords ΔDelicious Unlimited Ocean. Once there, they'll be greeted by the sight of several islands all connected to a larger, 'main' island where the GMs are situated. Right in front of the Chaos Gate too, so there's no missing them. Good thing too, because they're handing out the fishing rods you need to complete this quest!

... But no bait?

A quick inquiry will net players the answer; defeat monsters to earn bait in order to catch fish for the salmon bake later! Okay, so maybe it wasn't a salmon bake but grilled fish does smell sound like a nice incentive right? Five of the islands branching off the main one has a small sign in front that indicate which levels they'll find there, starting from level 1 through 10 up to level 41 through 50 for the most daring. There's space all throughout the islands that seem to be designated 'safe spots' where one can start fishing without worrying about getting ambushed.

Go forth and catch that elusive Halibut for dinner!

2) All right! There are all sorts of fishes, but the fishes you'll be catching are of the monster variety. The dropped item will be a normal fish (re; salmon, halibut, tilapia, etc)! There are complimentary summer/beach costumes for all who participate and... quirky(?) fishbone/seafood themed weapons for everyone who catches a fish.

And before anyone asks, yes. Even that tiny little smelt can potentially net you a gigantic Broadsword]

[Roy starts to shrug, but it's interrupted when his rod is nearly yanked out of his hands by a powerful tug. He gets to his feet quickly, bracing himself against the pull.]

Whoa! I know I don't remember catching anything THIS big!

[tank_sniper]

[She starts, nearly dropping her own fishing pole when she realizes that she... probably can't help him all that much even if she ditches her own line.]

Think you've got it-?!

[No sooner does she ask that then the fish breaches the water -- and just as anyone would expect, it's a monster fish, and not just in size. Roy eyes it skeptically for a moment, then sets his shoulders and begins to reel again.]

I don't think either of us would be sorry if you weakened it a bit while I'm reeling!

[tank_sniper]

[Well, that changes things. She'll just go ahead and drop her line - she's got enough bait for plenty of other tries anyway - and, after equipping her bayonet, will open fire on that fishmonster.}

[That makes reeling it in a bit easier -- oh no, wait, that's because the fish monster is furiously charging the beach in a rage. Roy promptly falls on his butt as the line goes slack, scrambling to his feet as it races for them.]

[When the fish starts charging, Shinon starts backing the hell up, firing a few shots in between steps as she gives Roy a wide enough berth to take on the fish monster himself.

Also just because, you know. Taking on a monster at short range is the last thing she wants to do.]

[That's okay. With a look of cold determination on his face, Roy steps up and wallops the monster with the fishing rod he's still holding.]

[Part of her is surprised the system is allowing the fishing rod to be used as a melee weapon.

The other part is watching cautiously. She's sure Roy can handle it from this point on, she just doesn't want to attract the monster's attention by mistake.]

[Weaponized fishing poles are a time-honored MMO tradition! Also Roy didn't particularly bother to stop and consider whether or not he could actually do this; he just did it.]

[The battle, actually, is fairly close. The monster outlevels Roy, but in turn, Roy is fighting smarter, focusing on a defensive push as he slowly backs out of the water to lure the fish out. It's starting to feel that more and more as it drags itself after him.]

[tank_sniper]

[She'll just edge around them, keeping up a distance and watching to make sure Roy's health doesn't dip too low. It's his fishmonster, so she'll leave him to it unless he really needs the help.]

[greatcleavage]

[Roy finally deals the finishing blow by leaping into the air and bringing his fishing pole down on the monster's head two-handed, which makes it shudder and slump to the ground. Roy lands in something of a heap, breathing hard, but he quickly picks himself up.]

Ha! Who's the bait now, you --

[He gestures with the fishing pole, mid-sentence -- then actually notices it, and stops dead.]

...I was using this for the entire fight, wasn't I.

[tank_sniper]

Yes you were.

[She's back to fixing more bait on her own fishing rod, since apparently it got lost while the fight was happening. Oh well.]

[greatcleavage]

I thought the balance seemed off... but it was oddly effective.

[He contemplates for a moment more, then shrugs and starts hauling it further up the shore.]

So now we need to get you one!

[tank_sniper]

[She shakes her head.]

I'll get one eventually. You just focus on yours.

[greatcleavage]

I'm not sure if it would count for you if I caught it for you, but I'm not going far. Once you start reeling, I'll wade out and have a frank discussion with it about its AC versus my to-hit bonus.

[tank_sniper]

Just don't steal my kill, okay?

[She's one to talk.]

[It's a serious question but very lightly phrased to make it almost a joke. ]

[tank_sniper]

[She's about to answer, but it's cut off when suddenly, there is something on the other end of her line. Instinctively pulling the fishing rod as close to vertical as possible, she begins trying to reel the thing in.]

--! Got something!

[greatcleavage]

All right!

[Roy kicks his own fish further up on shore (dramatically, but unnecessarily) and draws his sword.]

[tank_sniper]

[Fishing life is so totally not her thing, but she does eventually manage to pull the thing onto shore. Have at, Roy!]

[And he does, leaping into a furious duel with the creature and grinning all the way. Shinon knows him well enough to tell he's holding back, fighting more defensively so she can arm herself and claim the kill properly, but this doesn't seem to bother him.]

[She takes the opportunity to switch to her bayonet, since unlike Roy she cannot fight with a rod.

It doesn't take very long at all for her to start shooting at the fishmonster, throwing in quite a few skills to quickly shave away at its HP. It doesn't take long at all for the beast to go down and turn into...

An ordinary Tilapia.]

...I want to be surprised, but I can't honestly say I am anymore.

[He's not surprised, just disgusted on her behalf.]

Well, I don't say it's the BEST way, but if we were camping in the wilderness, we've have just gutted it, then stuck it on a stick by the fire to roast.
