quest four | you can't catch fish if you don't go fishing!

CHARACTERS: ALL ([community profile] holyrelic)
DATE: Aug 12 - 16 (extended due to RL punting the modchims)
RATING: KEEP IT G
SUMMARY: There's a fishing tournament being talked about around Mac Anu and Lumina Cloth. Do you have what it takes to be the Grandmaster Fisher?! ... But before that, there's bait to be found!

There's a buzz in the plaza and quite a few posters put out. It seems that with the dog days of summer upon everyone, it's also time to partake of a typical summer activity... Fishing! On the posters strewn throughout the Root Towns are the keywords ΔDelicious Unlimited Ocean. Once there, they'll be greeted by the sight of several islands all connected to a larger, 'main' island where the GMs are situated. Right in front of the Chaos Gate too, so there's no missing them. Good thing too, because they're handing out the fishing rods you need to complete this quest!

... But no bait?

A quick inquiry will net players the answer; defeat monsters to earn bait in order to catch fish for the salmon bake later! Okay, so maybe it wasn't a salmon bake but grilled fish does smell sound like a nice incentive right? Five of the islands branching off the main one has a small sign in front that indicate which levels they'll find there, starting from level 1 through 10 up to level 41 through 50 for the most daring. There's space all throughout the islands that seem to be designated 'safe spots' where one can start fishing without worrying about getting ambushed.

Go forth and catch that elusive Halibut for dinner!

[ooc: Okay, 2 things.

1) Event extended because Life hates your mods. 8'( Sorry this came up so late, folks.

2) All right! There are all sorts of fishes, but the fishes you'll be catching are of the monster variety. The dropped item will be a normal fish (re; salmon, halibut, tilapia, etc)! There are complimentary summer/beach costumes for all who participate and... quirky(?) fishbone/seafood themed weapons for everyone who catches a fish.

And before anyone asks, yes. Even that tiny little smelt can potentially net you a gigantic Broadsword]

Really? That long?

I know right!! It's such a pain.

[He huffs a bit before mumbling to himself.]

Maybe I should just use that.

There are worse things to wait for.

[Although she does tilt her head when she catches that mumble.]

Use what?

Nothing!

[His answer is maybe a tad quick. Definitely suspicious.

Here, let's also try a subject change!]

Have you caught anything yet?

[What is it with people saying one thing and quickly trying to hide it later here......

Oh well.
]

Not yet.

See, it's not that easy.

Maybe not, but I wouldn't say it's hard exactly, either.

[Okay, yeah, she has a point.]

But there's so much waiting around.

You get used to it. You just have to keep focused on your goal.

Right. Get used to it.

[He knows that of course. He just likes making a fuss out of nothing.

Then, reconsidering himself, he stands up properly and holds the fishing rod with both hands.]

[She actually smiles for a second when she sees him stand up. Unfortunately(?), it's short-lived because that's when she finally gets a bite. And for all her talk... she doesn't really know much about fishing, so she's just going to try reeling it in and hope it works.]

-!
isolates: (this is amazing)

[personal profile] isolates 2012-08-22 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
[The sound of surprise she makes makes him glance over at her. Seeing that she got a bite though brightens him up. Even though he hasn't gotten anything, it's still exciting!]

Ahh, don't let it get away!!

[personal profile] tank_sniper 2012-08-22 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
[It's a good thing she was standing, because otherwise she would have been pulled into the water by now. And even then, it's proving to be a tough catch.]

I'm trying not to-!

[After a bit of a struggle, she manages to pull the fish out of the water and onto land!! Except...

This is a really big, dangerous lookin' fish. She knew it was supposed to be a monster, but... Ahh, well, she was here expecting a fight, wasn't she? Out comes the bayonet, and she begins shooting at it even as she backs off to put some distance between them.
]

Hey, you should move away!
isolates: (let me protect you)

[personal profile] isolates 2012-08-23 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't need to be told twice. He quickly scrambles away from the edge. Once he's a bit farther away, he stands up properly and drops his fishing rod to the ground.

That monster's pretty big...]

Do you need help??
tank_sniper: (DAMAGE > -150HP)

[personal profile] tank_sniper 2012-08-23 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
I think I've got it. Don't attract its attention!

[So she says as she rolls to narrowly avoid an attack. Damn, close combat really isn't her forte. She manages to fire off a single Thunder Spark before it manages to hit her, sending her staggering back.]
isolates: (isolation!)

[personal profile] isolates 2012-08-29 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Sure she says that but he can't exactly stand by and watch her fight by herself. So instead while she's keeping it busy he runs off to put some distance between himself and the fish monster.

Aiming carefully so he doesn't accidentally hit Shinon, he shoots a spell off in it's direction.]

[personal profile] tank_sniper 2012-08-29 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Shinon takes the opportunity to put some more distance between herself and the monster, only beginning to shoot again once the spell has ended. She's using up a lot of skills, keeping the aggro on herself and moving whenever she can to stay away from it.

Its health bar indicates it's got about half its HP left.
]
isolates: (this isn't going to end well)

[personal profile] isolates 2012-09-01 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Now that Shion isn't too close anymore, Yuuta readies another spell. This time, because neither of them are close range as well as the fact that he's support, he casts something that will slow the monster down.]

Dek Do!!
tank_sniper: (STATUS AIL > Confuse)

[personal profile] tank_sniper 2012-09-01 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Which leaves her with plenty of opportunity to spam skills at it. And I mean, why not? She has to stand around some more once she finishes it off, so it's not like she won't regain it back eventually. In the end, it's one last Thunder Spark that brings the fish monster to its end, revealing...

An ordinary salmon.

Right then.
]

...Somehow, this feels really anticlimactic.
isolates: (if you say so)

[personal profile] isolates 2012-09-01 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Yuuta runs back to where she is to peer at the fish.]

It really does after all that effort. Then again, this place seems to have something against doing things normally.

[Such as catching fish normally instead of fighting monsters for them. Although... that is a lot more exciting, he has to admit.]

I can understand trying to spice things up for a game, but this might be taking it a little too far. Getting a fish in return for defeating a specially made monster just doesn't feel that rewarding.
