event four | can a chest that can't be opened really be called a chest?
CHARACTERS: Any and all!
DATE: 19th~22nd
RATING: PG for foul-mouthed NPCs
SUMMARY: The NPCs around town are spreading rumors of a dungeon chest that can't be opened. If you ask them nicely, they'll give you the area words Δ Choosing Superior Offerings. What you do or what you'll try from there is up to you!
The NPCs around town are busy murmuring to each other and eyeing the adventurers curiously, wondering aloud if anyone in Mac Anu would fall for such folly. Surely not, but who would ever know the root of the story if no one went to look? It spreads through the town like wildfire, this rumor of a dungeon chest that will not open for any who have tried. Some don't know the area words, but they know who will and will forward any eager or curious adventures to them.
Once at the dungeon, however, things are a little different. There are far less monsters to be found-- in fact, hardly any at all. It's a level 11 temple dungeon, with three floors. One needs only to reach the second floor to start hearing voices...
( ooc: As always, be sure to tag your chara name into the log when you reply! If you'd like a mod to NPC the townsfolk or NPCs in the dungeon for you, please just let us know with a subject title holler. :)
The NPC in the dungeon is squat and fat, shadowed in heavy robes. They'll threaten and harangue anyone who comes to them, and summon undead goblins to fight you after a while. Once you've defeated all six, he warps off and leaves the way to a new chest unbarred-- a chest which now opens and has unremarkable items inside. The event itself is the important part, though, and the first of three ongoing events. )

I've got some potions too, so I'm good to go. Lead the way.

[He produces his Relic to invite her, then gives the gate the code words to the field they seek!]
no subject
I'll be staying back to avoid aggro, but I'll be sure to provide as much backup power as possible.
no subject
[With more caution than will prove necessary, he enters the dungeon proper, looking out for foes.]

Well, I certainly feel challenged, don't you?

[Even now, she's on the alert. It's hard to really drop your guard much when you're used to sitting still for any given amount of time, waiting for a target to come by so you can snipe them.]
There has to be more to it. A trap, maybe?

[That's all that needs saying, really. She follows his directions, jogging to close the distance a little and raising her bayonet slightly as she keeps an eye on the area behind them.]

Still no sign of any monsters... Oh, look, stairs.]
...No way. Did we miss something along the way?
no subject
That can't be. Maybe someone else got here first.
no subject
[She's definitely up for trying.]
no subject
I'm not above charging past them and taking it.
...unless they're actually in trouble and need help.
no subject
...Well, whatever. You're the leader here.

[No real need to help them either way.]
Are we going to go, or not?
no subject
But let's go.
[He hefts his sword, then charges onward!]
no subject
[And following! But still from a slight distance.]
/summon MOD NPCS!
/JOLTS AWAKE AND PULLS ON MOD CAPE
Upon entering the room, there is only the treasure chest. However, once approached, the chest itself explodes and a voice drifts in, preceding the squat NPC that appears. He introduces himself as Habuzi of Decay and goes on about you being bestowed with the Mark of Offering. Whatever that is, it certainly doesn't sound good, and he seems to have a thing about rotting flesh.
He's not to be interrupted, and summons some undead minions at the end of his spiel-- three altogether (as opposed to the six listed in the log, because of your smaller party). Become nourishment for this lord of the dead Cernunnos, or fight. ]

[Shinon, for her part, will be putting as much distance as possible between herself and the enemies. In the interest of avoiding aggro, she'll wait for Roy to start attacking before she begins providing backup.]
no subject
[Roy grins with confidence as he lifts his sword.]
Perfect. I've got a lot of pent-up aggression to work out.
POWER ATTACK! [Roy charges into the fray quite literally, swinging his greatsword with punishing force.]
