event four | can a chest that can't be opened really be called a chest?

CHARACTERS: Any and all!
DATE: 19th~22nd
RATING: PG for foul-mouthed NPCs
SUMMARY: The NPCs around town are spreading rumors of a dungeon chest that can't be opened. If you ask them nicely, they'll give you the area words Δ Choosing Superior Offerings. What you do or what you'll try from there is up to you!

The NPCs around town are busy murmuring to each other and eyeing the adventurers curiously, wondering aloud if anyone in Mac Anu would fall for such folly. Surely not, but who would ever know the root of the story if no one went to look? It spreads through the town like wildfire, this rumor of a dungeon chest that will not open for any who have tried. Some don't know the area words, but they know who will and will forward any eager or curious adventures to them.

Once at the dungeon, however, things are a little different. There are far less monsters to be found-- in fact, hardly any at all. It's a level 11 temple dungeon, with three floors. One needs only to reach the second floor to start hearing voices...

( ooc: As always, be sure to tag your chara name into the log when you reply! If you'd like a mod to NPC the townsfolk or NPCs in the dungeon for you, please just let us know with a subject title holler. :)

The NPC in the dungeon is squat and fat, shadowed in heavy robes. They'll threaten and harangue anyone who comes to them, and summon undead goblins to fight you after a while. Once you've defeated all six, he warps off and leaves the way to a new chest unbarred-- a chest which now opens and has unremarkable items inside. The event itself is the important part, though, and the first of three ongoing events. )

[Pirates had a way of getting a hold of information like this. Unfortunately for her, she doesn't quite understand the whole concept of "levels" right now and is just looking for other people - any other people - to get at that chest.]

[Here's someone conveniently passing by at the right time too.] Ah, we meet again.

[personal profile] failedrescue 2012-06-30 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Have you heard of the rumor among the residents?
ladieswhodresslikemen: (barside frustration)

How are we going to handle this? Faris is already in another group...

Asad, I'm a pirate. Someone mentions treasure and I'm one of the first to hear about it.

She could always reject his invitation o7 He wouldn't mind!

[personal profile] failedrescue 2012-06-30 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
I see. I suppose that does make sense. [Not that he had many pirates in his life.]

Then are you going to search for it? I admit it sounds rather suspicious.
ladieswhodresslikemen: (ughhhh)

Yes, the wonderful somewhat-of-a-doormat-sometimes Asad...

[personal profile] ladieswhodresslikemen 2012-06-30 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, maybe later. Probably isn't that much in it.

His life is a pain like that.

[personal profile] failedrescue 2012-06-30 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
Then if you wish, let us go together later. It may bear some fruit to investigate.
ladieswhodresslikemen: (the usual)

Still, he has his moments.

All right then, I'll keep you in mind.

[Heh. By the time "later" rolls around the treasure will already be gone...]

He will get those moments back!

[personal profile] failedrescue 2012-07-01 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Though it's rather strange that the rumor only appeared now. Do you think perhaps someone has went there just recently?
ladieswhodresslikemen: (serious)

[personal profile] ladieswhodresslikemen 2012-07-01 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

Either to try to open it, or set a trap.

[personal profile] failedrescue 2012-07-04 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
-- A trap?! Do you really believe that is possible?
ladieswhodresslikemen: (ughhhh)

[personal profile] ladieswhodresslikemen 2012-07-05 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Of course.

And then occasionally you get the odd monster that packs itself into a chest, too.

[personal profile] failedrescue 2012-07-07 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
... Excuse me?

How would they fit in such a small area though?
ladieswhodresslikemen: (uh...)

[personal profile] ladieswhodresslikemen 2012-07-08 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
[...wait, how did a Red Dragon stuff itself into a chest?]

Never actually thought about it. Magic, probably.

[personal profile] failedrescue 2012-07-08 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Have you encountered one of these before?
ladieswhodresslikemen: (barside frustration)

[personal profile] ladieswhodresslikemen 2012-07-10 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Would I have thought of it if I hadn't?

[personal profile] failedrescue 2012-07-11 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose.

It is quite odd though. I can't imagine why any creature would find it comfortable to stay in a treasure chest.
