SUMMARY: Perhaps it's an April Fool's joke-- surely Saint Patrick's Day has already passed. And yet clovers rain down and the fountains run green regardless. But it's a nice welcome to The World regardless, so enjoy it while it lasts!


There's gold banners strung from rooftop to rooftop, catching the light of the eternally-setting sun and reflecting it every which way. The ground's already covered in a generous amount of fallen shamrocks, with no end in sight. They're in your hair, on your clothes, in your food-- everywhere!

The main fountain (as well as the smaller second fountain in the alchemy district) is running with fizzing green soda, glass mugs lined up along the edges invitingly. New characters will receive one of two items-- in the first half of the week, they'll be awarded a limited edition golden weapon to suit their class, adorned in emeralds. In the latter half (for later applicants), they'll receive a leprechaun hat. The size is entirely up to the player, so it can range from a cute, small hat a la lolita style, or a big floppy hat, or a dapper silk top hat.

Have a look around, meet others, and enjoy the Irish foods offered for free at NPC shops to go with the soda. All items earned are to stay!



There's even a young silver-haired GM dolled up in green silks at the quest kiosk available for questions, although he doesn't look particularly friendly. His body language says to Stay Away, despite his location right in the upper left corner of the town center.

[ Have some questions? He's one of the only people around not moving like a pre-programmed NPC, but his attitude may chase you right back off. Doesn't hurt to try though, right?

Kain's boots are propped up on the desk in front of him, chair tilted back on two legs with his arms crossed over his chest. He appears to be no older than 15 or 16, but he has a pretty mature brow line. ]

[ ARGH FINE he slams a boot down testily, scowling. You win. ]

Are you just gonna lurk there all day?

[ ahaha like that kind of attitude is new. Hitei saunters over, friendly smile fixed firmly in place, and leans over him. ]

Excuse me?

What?

[ HE IS THE MOST STANDOFFISH he doesn't care that she's invading his personal space (he does). ]

[ oh good. She leans back now she has his attention. ] As much as you must have heard this many times by now... You seem to be the person to come to for information.

I'm behind the desk, after all. You don't need to beat around the bush; what do you want?

[Roy puts on his best "professional adventurer" mien as he approaches.]

You look like someone who has some sort of authority. Can you get me a copy of the SRD for this edition? We never get notified about these changes ahead of time. I'm not even sure I'm a fighter any more, which raises all sorts of questions about my backstory.

You're right about that, but I don't think you understand what sort of situation you've been thrown into.

And what the hell's an SRD?

[ The last part is mumbled, but haha this guy's pretty meta. That's amusing. ]

[Roy waves a hand dismissively.] The last one we went through was in the middle of combat, I think I can handle myself. I just want to know what I can do now. Plus it's hard to make wacky rules references when the rules just changed.

Look, there are no rules besides "don't kill each other in town". It's just that simple. I think you're a little confused making this out to be something it isn't.

[oh yes, he has questions. mostly along the lines of WHAT IS GOING ON because nobody has actually managed to explain that yet.

it's the body language that draws him to this one. all aloof and moody, so unlike all the generically helpful NPCs, that in addition to being seated behind a desk and thus most likely either in a service or authority role, makes him seem like the best choice to pester. he might look a bit young, but who is saralegui to question age when it comes to anything?

he strides up the the desk, leaning over it as he speaks to try to get the man's attention.]

Excuse me, are you in charge here?

[ Wow those are some legit rose-tinted glasses! His only eye cracks open and looks Saralegui up and down, before sighing. ]

I'm behind the desk, aren't I? Do I look as vapid as the NPCs?

[ He asks that, but they're still pretty lively until you ask them the wrong questions! So maybe it isn't such an obvious difference. ]

NPCs?

[he frowns at the unfamiliar word, but hey, at least it's a good sign that he found someone useful, right?]

Non-Player Characters. The shop owners and stuff. They look human and everything but they're just programs. If you ask them questions, they only have a programmed set of replies and blank out if you ask them something they don't know.

[ He could go on about their efficiency, lack of budget since they don't need to be paid or fed, and what a pain in the ass they could be, but he'll leave that be for now. ]

[ She's cheerful regardless of the situation. ] Hello, I hope I'm not disturbing you. If you have the time, will you answer a few questions for me?

You are, but I'm not really doing anything more interesting.

[ He looks off to the side with a slightly-lessened scowl. ]

What do you need to know?

[inhearts]

Well, to start with, what's your name? I'm Arisato Minako.

[tsunderator]

Kain. And the other kid you'll see around here dressed in green and gold is Keane.

[ He'd say nice to meet you, but he isn't sure it'd be true just yet. ]

[A girl in a robe stands a little ways off, observing the festivities. She wonders whether she's welcome to join in...]

[She turns her attention to the man with the eyepatch, and begins walking towards him. He looks like a vendor of some sort, maybe...]

[...Oh. He's asleep, it looks like. Probably best not to bother him.]

[ If she hovers for even a few seconds, his eye opens and he scowls, but he isn't particularly off-putting with his age.

He slides his legs off the desk and the chair drops back to all fours with a bang. ]

You need something?

[ She'd be the first person that wasn't irritating so far. ]

Oh! Ah... yes.

[The sound of the chair rocking to its upright position causes her to jump slightly. Mia remains calm, briefly closing her eyes.]

What's happened? There are people depending on me, and I don't know where I am...

[She pulls out the Relic.]

...and maybe you could tell me what this is? I woke up with it... but nothing else. I've been robbed.

[She pauses briefly, somehow having forgotten her original intent.]

...oh, and what's the festival for?

You weren't robbed; that's a Relic. It's a device that lets you warp to other areas from the Chaos Gate you appeared by, and lets you access your inventory and everything so you don't have to carry all your stuff. Just shove whatever in that pouch on your belt, even if it doesn't fit. It'll go straight to your inventory.

[ He uses his own to demonstrate pulling out a weapon just by tapping the inventory icon and then the image of a weapon-- in this case a lvl.91 Spin Heaven set of dual daggers. They warp into his hand with glowing blue rings, much as people who use the Gates are warped away. Then they disappear in a blue glow when he moves them to the mouth of the pouch on his own belt. Just that simple. ]

It's just a welcoming party. April Fool's and all that, we have a St. Patrick's Day tradition. Don't know them?

[ And he sighs. But with a flourish of his wrist, he gri-- smiles. ]

Welcome to The World. You're in Mac Anu right now. Don't worry about people at home, they'll be fine.

[ He neglects to mention that no one's particularly allowed to "log out", or how time stops in their worlds when they're pulled in. All negligible details, really. ]
